15 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

OH MY GOODNESS! I was looking through all my folded t-shirts, almost in desperation, trying to find something to wear today. I didn't want to wear one of my newer shirts -- again waiting for closer to the day and I wasn't feeling wearing one of my little shrug-dolman things. So while I was looking, I came across this shirt and I remembered I bought it for writing introductions in Literacy. See, my shirt collection began with purchasing shirts that tied into Literacy in some way or that I could use like that. Then it spiraled into all things geek. Granted, now I use the shirts to build relationships with my students, but still... the fact that I can wear my t-shirts makes me so very, very happy.

Anyways! I'm hoping this one gets a laugh today from my kids, because they are so cynical about some things and who doesn't like a good Star Wars joke?

16 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

I had someone ask me the other day if I had to go out and buy everything for this challenge just to complete this challenge and I honestly could answer, "No!" I have quite a few t-shirts in my closet, some of which I haven't worn in a few years, because, well... I gained weight and they became a bit small on me and I folded them and put them away. Now that I've lost quite a bit of weight, I've been digging them out again and wearing them. Granted, I did buy a few new shirts prior to deciding to do the challenge, but that's what I do. I'm a t-shirt person and I wear them to work almost everyday. It helps me to connect with my students.

So no... I didn't go buy a special wardrobe for this, I'm just locating all of my super sweet Star Wars gear and celebrating wearing it. With the exception of one coworker, no one seems to realize I'm wearing stuff every day (not even my student teacher who is a bigger nerd that me!).

17 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

Today in my classroom we were talking about the Notice & Note Signpost read strategy called "Words of the Wiser" and I couldn't not bring out this oldie but a goody for some fun. "Words of the Wiser" means that when you are reading you are looking for an older, wiser character who says something to another character. By noticing this, you can sometimes figure out what the lesson or theme of the story really is. Yoda is the prime example used across the board for this particular signpost. It was perfect for today. I think I got this one through TeeFury a few years back and I found it in my closet, not having worn it more than once, so this was very exciting.

When Vader Earns a Parking Spot

I am, sadly, very obnoxious about fandoms. Like... I really can't help it. Call me immature, but the heart wants what the heart wants (I think). So when I meet people who share my fandom, even just a little bit, I become slightly overzealous.

For example, my student teacher and I are secretly staging a Marvel vs. DC battle in the classroom. We are starting out with lanyards and I think we're moving towards amassing tiny hints of the war of the comics. Well... honestly... we're talking it through. We'll see where it goes.

But I don't hide anymore. I can't. If my friend Annie can dress up her whole room with narwhal's, I'm pretty sure I can Star Wars/Marvel/Monkey my classroom as much as I want. Zombies are a bit iffy, but whatever. There is a time and a place.

So there's this one person at work who I've learned also likes Star Wars. To be fair, my coworker one room over loves Star Wars, too, but it's a different dynamic, I think. More like... we're in the process of developing a fandom repartee? Her husband, though, is like hardcore Star Wars. I'm not that intense about my Star Wars fandom. Get me going on The Walking Dead and I can be intense, but Star Wars is a cultural love that I just happen to know a ton about, because I grew up with it.

Digressions... boy do I make them.

So back to this OTHER coworker. I'm probably the epitome of obnoxious, but... well... I feel like I can get away with it? I dunno. I like having someone to share Star Wars with. And they let me be silly. So that's always a bonus in my book, because being silly is what gets me through each day. Without that, I think things are a bit too intense and being silly is an escape for me. I like people who let me be silly and occasionally appreciate it.

Jeez! I didn't know this would turn into this big long thing with so many detours.

Essentially, I have a coworker who I love sharing my love of Star Wars with and I like to be silly about it. When this coworker won the elite staff parking spot for two weeks, I couldn't resist putting up a Vader image over the panther image on the sign. What else would you do before you leave on Thanksgiving break? I couldn't pass up the chance.

Sure, I could have gone farther and replaced Panther with Vader, but I'm impulsive and only made it to REPLACE THE HEAD! When I talked to my coworker, they said they were waiting for the Imperial March to play... Dammit! Why didn't I think of that? Granted, hiding in-between cars to jump out and play it is a bit outside of my silly wheelhouse. I can be elaborate, but that was a bit more than I could make happen.

Suffice to say, I was thrilled with it and I couldn't get over how absolutely cool it looked. I couldn't care less what others said about it, because holy bejeepers, it looked too awesome.

18 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

I had a heck of a day by the time I was able to get my picture done. I mean... I can't even begin to tell you what kind of day it has been. Oh goodness. BUT I got the picture done and I wore my Target shirt. The funny thing was, I actually found this t-shirt online while I was looking for outfit inspiration for a character I have for my Marvel RPG and I was writing a side story about her. I liked the shirt so much, I found it at Target and just had to have it. It made my heart happy.

20 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

Ok, yeah, I have my t-shirt from Target and I have my Leia Buns hat, but I think Vader is a perfect accessory! We went to a one-man performance of all three original Star Wars movies. Oh my goodness it was so much fun ad I loved it. If he comes to your area, you should definitely check him out. My husband also had a photo taken with a Wompa and my daughter had her picture taken with R2D2 and was photobombed by a Jawa!

Getting closer.......

22 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

It's Thanksgiving and I broke out my BB8 scarf for the Turkey Trot my daughter and I do every year! Boy did I need it, because it was chilly and it snowed! While not as bad as Hoth probably is, it was still pretty cold. Those Turkey Trot shirts provided zero warmth and, sadly, the sizes ran small. Anyways! Super sweet scarf. Got it off of Amazon.

23 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

It's my last day of work before Thanksgiving and I just had to wear this brown shirt... oh look... it's Star Wars AND Futurama! Another favorite that I had to dig out of my closet and didn't realize I could now wear again!

24 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

This is one of my favorite shirts. Harrison Ford as both of his iconic characters coming together! I think I got this from Woot! Shirts.

25 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

I'm sorry for all the socks, but it is what it is. It's not too cold for these thin little guys and I prefer to save my shirts for closer to the day. More attention-getting.

26 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

Another pair of socks, but I really needed some Chewbacca love today! From my set from Target that fit feet sizes 4-11. I'm going to be honest... that's a really large range and if you're above a 7, there is no way these are comfortable. I suffer for my fandom, though.

27 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

Only 27 Days until The Last Jedi. My daughter came downstairs wearing this and I decided it was appropriate for today! Rebels are always amazing!

28 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

It is now only 28 days until Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi comes out! Can't say each day isn't exceptionally exciting. Well... that's probably just me.

So today, I chose something that probably isn't really considered an accessory, but I do use it every day, so it's kind of like an accessory... you know... like your phone. So here it is.

29 Days to Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi Apparel Challenge

29 Days left until Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi comes out. I'm donning one piece of Star Wars apparel or an accessory each day as a countdown to December 15.

Today were some sporty Boba Fett socks from Target.
